A Very Important Announcement!

Hello all B4EB Performers, Volunteers & Supporters,

First and foremost we’d like to extend our most sincere appreciation for the ongoing support, patience and understanding you have all offered to us in our very first run at producing a DIY, body positive burlesque show.  We have been overwhelmed by the show of support and appreciation we have received from our audiences and performers.  We have been overwhelmingly successful in our first handful of shows, and we have all of you to thank for it.

We did not expect this level of interest in the show and therefore have had to deal with some changes and issues that we were not necessarily prepared for.  One of these things, as some of you may know, was the need for a change of venue to ensure the safety of our performers and patrons.  While we have tentatively secured a new performance space, we spent some time reviewing all that would need to be done in the next 2 weeks to pull off a successful show in our new space that respects our performers, the venue, and our audience/supporters, and we have made a difficult, but confident decision to cancel our next two shows.

For many reasons, Burlesque for EveryBody will be taking a break for the rest of 2012 and will be RE-LAUNCHING in January 2013!  We are very excited about re-launching, and are confident that we’ll come back stronger than ever!

Trust us, this is exciting!  We are so proud of what we have built already and what our communities have supported.  We realize that this type of space is valuable and necessary and that everyone loves to be a part of an ongoing fundraiser supporting body positive & queer communities & individuals.  We will be back, stronger than ever & raising more funds for causes we all care about.

Please keep in touch with us over the next months via e-mail, tumblr or facebook.  We’d love to hear suggestions on causes to support, performers you’d love to see at our shows, themes for our upcoming performances and any other thoughts you have to share with us.  We’ll do our part by keeping you all in the loop via our social medias and will obviously make another big announcement in December when we finalize plans for our B4EB RE-LAUNCH PARTY!

Thank you so much again - we love you all tremendously, and can’t wait to see you at our upcoming shows!

Love,
Holly Amory and Spunky Horton

Ch-ch-ch-changes!

Howdy, folks!

After working out our first three shows and speaking with some folks who have done similar work before, we have decided to make some changes to the way that we give and receive funds. Let’s break the reasoning behind this:

- Initially, we had wanted to give 100% of the door funds to the organizations we work with. Unfortunately, this means that each organization we work with receives a different amount of money depending upon how many folks show up and how much money our audience was able to contribute for the month. We don’t feel that this is fair to the organizations we benefit, so we wanted to come up with a different way of structuring things.

- Let’s be honest, our performers are the absolute backbone of our organization and production. Without them, we wouldn’t have a show for you to enjoy, and it breaks our hearts to have to give our performers tips that barely cover their Metrocard fare to the show and back. So we needed to find a way to pay everyone for their hard work and dedication to this production!

So what are we to do about these conundrums? A-ha! We have all this planned out.

- As of our September show, all funds will be split 50/50 between the performer and production fund, as well as our Community Chest.

- Our performers and our production team will split 50% of what we collect for admission, as well as raffle and tip money. Members of our production team and our performers have the option of keeping their funds or donating them to the Community Chest.

- The other 50% will go to our Community Chest. When our Community Chest reaches $250, we will donate those funds to an organization that has applied for a grant. Recipients of these grants will be voted upon by our Board of Directors (to get involved with the board, simply email us and we’ll forward you relevant information).

- We will have pre-sale tickets at a discount and a slightly higher fee for those who wish to pay at the door. Sliding scale tickets will still be available upon request.

This means that, while we won’t be working with an organization during every performance, we will be able to present one with a big, fat, glittery check every few shows or so. This will also mean that we can build upon our production, provide ourselves with funds for promotional material, etc.

We are also pleased as a peach to announce that the recipient of our very first grant will be The Trans Women’s Anti-Violence Project! So make sure you get on out to our next show on September 22 at Goodbye Blue Monday and contribute to our goal of giving them our first grant!

While it does disappoint us that we don’t live in a world where we can give all of the money we raise to the organizations we work with, we are very excited to be able to see this show, which started as a little twinkle in our eyes back in February, grow in to a real production. We are going to continue to evolve until we’ve found the right fit for our show, but we will keep you posted along the way!

This is a model that has been successful for other productions who run a model very similar to ours, but we do encourage your feedback! Please don’t hesitate to email us at burlesqueforeverybody at gmail dot com, should you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding our new structure or anything else on your mind!

Thank you so much to our fans, friends, and supporters. You make all of this planning and strategizing worth it!

Love,

Holly Amory and Nicole Kubon
